Designs on Learning: Designs on Research

Overview

Research networks for postgraduate students are common and provide valuable platforms for students to test and progress their research and to disseminate their research outcomes. A comparable forum for undergraduate art, design and media specialist students appears not to exist. It is recognised that such undergraduate events can provide important opportunities for students to advance their research; to learn with others, to progress their ideas further and to celebrate their final year research.

This project and its annual collaborative symposia aims to help students; to provide an opportunity for students to develop their research work and for students and staff to work collaboratively.

The 'Designs on Research' HEA funded free workshop was hosted at the Arts University College at Bournemouth, Dorset, UK on the 25th June 2012. Information is provided within the blog accordingly.

25 June 2012 Design on Research Workshop, Arts University at Bournemouth, Dorset, UK

On the 25th June 2012 the free HEA funded Designs on Research workshop took place.

The event aimed to disseminate our research findings regarding the value and potential of an undergraduate research symposium as an annual cross-institutional initiative within the art, design and media sector. Importantly, it aimed to present a model that can easily be applied to other disciplines, in a single or cross-disciplinary manner.

The event aimed to promote discussion as to the value of such an event for undergraduate students , and the role that design can play in enhancing the academic process of the final year dissertation or extended essay.

It explored the benefits derived from such a cross-institution event and specifically discussed how a poster and presentation format can celebrate and advance student research thinking and writing.
